I liked the use of incense in the hotel lobby, its interesting interior and decoration, the arrangements in our room, and the great bath! Also enjoyed traditional music used as background in the lobby.
I didn't like the absence of laundry arrangements. Few information available in English. Better restaurant service (more visible menu choices, clearer info on meals) would be helpful.
Location and kind staff
We thought breakfast was included but none was offered
I was not expecting it, but we were impressed by the spacious room. It also was very clean. The front desk staff speak decent english. They know what their guests want/need and they go out of their way to please their guests. We had a problem with the lock of the bike we rented from them, and in a few minutes, 5 to 6 staff gathered around to help fix the problem. Every lady staff we encountered were very swift to take our luggages from us for them to carry/roll it out themselves.
The elevators are old, but I feel that it adds to the feeling of being in a ryokan, given that they are traditional therefore a bit old. That the hotel did not have the japanese garden or ponds that will give a ryokan a more japanese feel.
very friendly staff who provided us with a pot of new hot water every day for tea and served with sweets. Traditional accomodation yet the room was big enough for 4 adults and all our luggage. The room was always warm and clean. Good value for money
The staff was very helpful and saw to my every need
Japanese style bed
It was too expensive for that quality. The bath was not clean enough. Check out time was 10h, it's very early.
Oyado Ishicho is in a quieter area but is very well placed for main bus routes which is great for visiting many of the numerous historical sites in Kyoto. It's also only 15mins walk from the main shopping area. Behind the hotel is the river & canals which are lovely to walk along vs the main road. The hotel has hot bathes (onsen) which are great for soothing one's body after a hard day's sightseeing. There are restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. It was good value for money compared to other Kyoto hotels
I'm glad I booked a japanese room for the experience but sleeping on futons for me was like sleeping on the floor - so next time I would book one or two nights in a japanese room & then hopefully be able to move to a western room with a bed. The reception staff's english was often limited so this made it difficult to ask questions about how to get to places etc which at times was frustrating. Much of the limited tourist information at the hotel was in japanese as that is their main clientele. Internet was very poor/non-existant.
We loved the helpfulness of the staff. They were all very polite and tried very hard to help us with any of our questions. The room was large and cool (with the airconditioning on). The room was traditional Japanese style and immaculate. The private bathroom was genrerous in size with a traditional Japanese bath area We loved the ambience of the room. In the evening the staff would set up futons with fresh linen and leave thermoses of hot tea and cold water on the table. We felt very well looked after. There were laundry facilities at the hotel which was perfect for us. We were able to rent bycylces inexpensively at the hotel. This was a truely great experience. Our family of four all loved staying here.
Although there is a restaurant across the street from the hotel, it does not serve a traditional Japanese breakfast (only one English style breakfast option) and there was smoking permitted in the restaurant. We never found a good restaurant for breakfast near by. We did end up purchasing some fruit and bread from a lovely market near the hotel and ate breakfast in our room. This was the only disappointment about the Oyado Ishicho. Ideally, we would have loved to eat a Japanese style breakfast at the hotel or nearby.
Japanese style room very appreciated solution for our family, confortable and relaxing onsen.
Very poor english spoken by the staff and no Wi-fi in the room.
Nice traditional hotel close to Kyoto's tourist nightlife.
The staff that had to work in our room was not very receptive (no English at all) and caring.
Very easy place to stay, authentic.
Traditional style Japanese rooms clean, silent and convenient to public transportation (they provide you a map that explains how to reach the mail destinations)
We liked the traditional Japanese style of the hotel. Our family stayed in one room for 4 people, and that worked very well. In the morning we had a nice price-worthy continental breakfast. The location of the hotel is very good. The underground is just a 5 min. Walk from the hotel, and there is lots of places to eat and shop in the neighborhood. It was also very calm.
There is no wall between the smoking area and non-smoking areas in the lobby. No Internet access in the rooms.
service is good. cleanliness of my room very well.
i hope the room have internet support.
Nice hotel in good location near Kyoto City Hall 15 mins by bus no.205 from Kyoto Station and 5 mins from "Gion" Shopping Center, staff very friendly and helpful good communicated in English. Have Onsen for guest not very big but good enough to give you good first experience for Onsen in Japan.
Not recommend for traveler who have a lot of suitcases because not close to Kyoto station.
